📚 What This Video Covers

Insight: A custom domain builds trust, improves branding, and makes your store look legit from day one.

Two Ways to Connect a Domain

There are two main ways to connect a custom domain to your Shopify store.

The first option is the easiest method — buying the domain directly from Shopify.

The second option requires a bit more manual work but can be cheaper by using a third-party provider like GoDaddy.

Tip: I’ll walk you through both methods step by step so you can choose what works best for you.

Method 1: Buy a Domain Directly From Shopify

This is the easiest and most beginner-friendly option.

Open your Shopify dashboard, go to Settings, then click Domains.

Click Buy New Domain and search for the domain name you want.

Pro Tip: Always choose a .com domain if possible — it looks more credible and professional.

The price is usually around $15 per year, which is standard.

Once you find the domain you want, click Buy Domain.

Shopify will automatically handle the entire connection process for you.

Within 1 to 4 hours, your myshopify.com address will be replaced with your new custom domain.

Method 2: Buy a Domain From GoDaddy (Cheaper Option)

This method takes a few extra steps but can save you money and give you more flexibility.

Go to GoDaddy.com and search for the same domain name.

In this example, ZenFlexYoga.com is offered for a discounted price if purchased for multiple years.

If you prefer yearly billing, you can adjust it to one year, which comes out to about $11.99 per year — around $3 cheaper than Shopify.

After purchasing the domain, wait about 20 minutes.

Then go back to your Shopify dashboard, open Settings, and click Domains.

Click Connect Existing Domain and enter your full domain name.

Shopify will automatically detect that the domain was purchased from GoDaddy.

Click Connect Automatically.

Tip: Make sure you’re logged into your GoDaddy account on the same computer — it helps the connection go smoother.

You’ll be redirected to GoDaddy where you just need to confirm the connection.

Domain Connection & Activation

The domain connection usually takes between 1 to 4 hours to fully complete.

Once you see a green Connected status next to your domain inside Shopify, you’re good to go.

Visit your store’s URL, and your new custom domain will be live.

No more myshopify.com — your store now looks clean, professional, and ready to make sales.
