How the U.S. electronics retail market is trending, from official U.S. Census data, and what it means for your eBay tablet sourcing. These are national retail figures, not eBay.
U.S. electronics and appliance store sales ran at $8.11B in July 2026, up 4.7% on July 2025 and 2.4% short of the April 2022 peak of $8.32B. The line has climbed for a year, from $7.75B last July to $8.20B in April. There is no tablet-only retail series, so this is the honest proxy: NAICS 443 is the group that contains consumer electronics retail. New tablet sales are what free up last-generation ones, and last-generation iPads are almost the whole of this page.
U.S. online sales reached $330B in the second quarter of 2026, up 12.4% year on year and about 3 times their 2018 level, with the Q4 2025 holiday quarter peaking at $365B. Tablets suit that shift, because a generation, a storage figure, a connectivity type and a condition grade describe a unit precisely enough to buy it without handling it.
On eBay, ZIK tracked an estimated 6,422 tablets sold in the last 30 days, worth $1,266,111 against 23,173 live listings, a 27.7% sell-through at $197.15 a sale, with competition scoring Medium. Treat that 27.7% with more caution than any other figure on this hub. Ten sellers took 84.9% of the units and 90.0% of the revenue from 528 listings, 2.28% of the pool, and one of them, eazytrade84, moved 3,078 units from 275 listings and took 47.7% of the category's revenue by itself. Strip those ten out and everyone else clears 4.3%. This is the most concentrated category we track, and at 6,422 units it is also the smallest report on the hub.
Connectivity separates fast stock from slow more cleanly than model does. Cellular units clear 1,652 sales against 1,267 listings, a rate above 100% because one listing can carry many units, at $206.52 a sale, and Wi-Fi models clear 65.4%. iPad Air follows at 48.7%. The premium end is the trap: iPad Pro carries the highest price on the page at $364.17 but clears only 22.8% against 4,611 listings, scoring High competition and Low opportunity. The Android and e-reader end is slower still, with Galaxy Tab at 4.7% against 4,925 listings and Amazon Fire at 3.5%. Kindle is the quiet exception, 22.5% against only 698 listings, scoring Low competition and High opportunity.
