If you are looking to sell jewelry on eBay, there are 5 important steps that you need to consider. These 5 steps will cover finding profitable jewelry items to sell on eBay, as well as listing those products so that they have the best chance to sell.

We will discuss them in detail below.

New to selling on eBay? This sellers guide will help you better understand the process.

Step 1: Identify your sub-niche

The first step to finding profitable items that you sell well on the platform is to identify your sub-niche. To do this, there are several tools available, but none are more capable and thorough than ZIK Analytics (we know, we are biased).

Not a member of ZIK Analytics? No worries! We have a 7 day trial below so you can get started on the right track and follow along with this guide.

In this section, we will be discussing how to use ZIK Analytics to identify your sub-niche, so that you can dive deep and find items that are selling like hotcakes on eBay. To do this, we simply navigate to the category research tab inside of ZIK Analytics.

category research

Inside of here, we go to the quick settings tab and choose our preferences. This includes selecting your specific eBay marketplace, where you will be shipping the items from, your supplier source, and your breakeven cost calculation.

supplier quick settings

For our example, we have our settings to

Marketplace: eBay USA

Shipping Location: United States

Source Website: Alibaba.com

Break-even calculation: 14%

Next, we scroll down to the jewelry category and select one of the sub-niches that are available inside of ZIK. For ease, we have segmented the most popular sub-categories in each main category here.

fashion jewlery

From here, ZIK shows you all of the best-selling items in this sub-category, filtered from best to worst. You can look at each product’s statistics to see which ones are doing well.

What we like to do from here is see which particular products are appearing several times in the top listed items.

For example, in our search, we found that necklaces, earrings, and rings were appearing very often. We, therefore, know that these jewelry items are worth investigating further to add to our store.

We also want to keep an eye to see which sellers are appearing multiple times for these products as we will be reverse engineering their stores to refine our search even further.

Step 2: Reverse engineering successful eBay sellers

In this step, we will reverse engineer a successful eBay store that we found in step 1. To do this, we will need to hover over the seller, and click on “scan seller”

scan seller

We know that this seller is only focused on selling jewelry, and in our example, we can see that they are selling $190,000 per month – so they are definitely doing something extremely right!

We can scroll down to the bottom of the seller’s page, and see all of the items that they are selling, as well as all the stats for those products.

Reviewing all of their top items, we can see that again, necklaces are selling extremely well!

Now, armed with this information from the category research, as well as the competitor research – we are ready to drill down further using product research.

Step 3: Drill down on profitable products using product research

Using all of the information above, we see that the “stainless steel Cuban chain necklace” is doing extremely well, and is something that we want to drill down on further. We go ahead and copy this title into the ZIK Product Research tab, making sure to only use the main keywords identifying this product.

title to product research

Once we hit search, we are given some amazing statistics for this item.

product statistics

Some of the key things that we noticed, was that the product had around $19,240 in sales in the last 30 days and the product had a 67% successful listing rate, with an average selling price of $15.92.

When we scroll down to review all of the accounts that are selling this product well, we can see a range of products, pictures, titles, and prices to get an understanding of the market.

From here, it is up to us to see if we can source or manufacture this product for a reasonable price so that we can compete in this market.

Step 4: Sourcing the product

If you are a new seller without an established supply chain – then sourcing your product can be tricky. The great news is, ZIK has made this process as simple as possible for you.

To find a similar product to the one you want to list, you simply need to hit the “AliBaba” button on ZIK and it will take you directly to the search by image function on AliBaba.

source on alibaba

Your job as an eBay seller is to make sure that the product that is being sourced from AliBaba is of a comparable material and quality to the products that your competitors are selling on eBay.

As an added bonus, if you are able to differentiate your product a little from products that are selling well, that would be a massive advantage over other sellers already in the space.

Step 5: Optimize your title to sell

Offcourse, finding a hot product is the cornerstone of any jewelry business, but when you are selling jewelry online – crafting a well thought out and optimized title and listing is a very close second.

For this reason, we put a lot of focus on optimizing our listing and title.

In our example, we are looking at a competitors listing who are listing a “stainless steel gold chain cuban curb necklace”

To optimize our title, we copy the full title of our competitors listing, and we paste it directly into the title optimization tool in ZIK Analytics.

zik title builder

When we paste in our keywords into the title builder tool and hit the search button, we see a range of long tail keywords that other listings are using to sell this product successfully on eBay. This information lets us know things like average searches, competition as well as sales attributed to the keyword (this is a huge competitive advantage!).

title builder tool

From here, we can prioritise the best keywords for our title. For example, our results shows us that the keyword “curb Cuban chain” has only 5 competitors, but 306 sales attributed to that keyword.

This means that this is a huge opportunity for us to fill a gap in the market, and is a keyword that we definitely should be adding to our title.

Using our competitors title, and the actual data of the product sales, we are able to construct an unbeatable title that helps us pull traffic and sales directly into our eBay stores.

Step 6: Create your eBay listing

The next step is to click on the “sell” button on the corner of your eBay home page, and then “tell eBay what you are selling”.

Because we are selling a “stainless steel gold chain cuban curb necklace”, we simply enter that into the search bar, and eBay will bring up similar items to the one we are selling that match that title.

list of jewelry category products

Once you find the appropriate listing that has the same characteristics as your one, go ahead and select it and update to the title that you crafted in step 5. Using the appropriate keywords from step 5 ensures that we have our eBay SEO dialled in, and we give our listing the best chance to sell well on eBay.

From here, you need to fill out the various specifics of your product such as the item condition, the make, materials and any other identifying feature that allows eBay to have as much information about your listing as possible.

Ensuring that this data is filled out to the best of your ability will mean that your product will have more data points for eBay to match to a potential buyers query, which will give you the best chance to show up on eBays search.

Further to this, you need to make sure that your jewelry photography captures multiple angles so that potential buyers can really get an understanding of what the product looks like.

Using great photos, with good lighting is something that all successful sellers do, as it allows you to minimize returns and increase buyer satisfaction (which reduces negative feedback).

You also need to ensure other important details in the item specifics are filled out such as:

    • Your title and sub title
    • Your item description
    • Your Return and shipping policies
    • Any possible item variations
    • Product price (make sure you account for the shipping cost)

Again, doing the above correctly will maximize organic reach. If this isn’t fast enough for you, you also have the option to utilize paid promotions such as promoting your eBay listing

Step 7: Fulfilling your orders

So your jewelry item has sold, congratulations! Now it is time to fulfil the order and ship the item promptly to your buyer.

When your item sells, you will be given all of your customers details to ship the item to inside of your seller dashboard. Here, you need to ensure that the item has been paid for, and that you pay specific attention to any notes that the buyer leaves you.

From there, you can go ahead and package the item and book in your courier labels to ship the items to your customers. You want to make sure that you protect your items with something like bubble wrap, or a hard mailer box so that your jewelry doesn’t get squashed or scratched.

You can find out more about eBays tips and requirements for shipping here.

Once this is done, you simply add the tracking number to the order, and there you have it – you have fulfilled your order!

Hot Tip

Keep on top of messaging your customer at every point of the process. This will ensure that your customer is happy, and is more likely to leave you positive feedback on their purchase.
